About

I was scared of getting stuck in a 9-5er, so I started a blog. Then I started another blog. Then I started a handmade accessories business. I am no longer stuck. I quit the j-o-b. Acute Designs is my journey.

Hi there, I'm Gina.  Full name Regina.  Call me either - I don't mind.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  My blog is a little about what inspires me, a little about the handmade community/my business, and a lot about my life and food.  Lots and lots of food.

A few random facts about me:
  • I don't smile much. I am not overly serious, I just don't display a lot of emotion in general.
  • I love, love, love my two dogs.
  • I could eat pizza and goat cheese every single day.  Actually, I almost do eat them every day.
  • I have a Bachelor's in English from Xavier University {Cincinnati, Ohio}.
  • My family moved a few times when I was growing up, so I don't have a childhood hometown.  I have adopted Cincinnati as my hometown.
  • My husband is from Ireland.  He has a hometown.  We were married in the same church where he was baptized, confirmed, and all those other Catholic sacraments.
  • I obsessively bite my nails.  Always trying to quit!
  • I tend to be all or nothing - when I like something, I really like it.  And when I don't, I just don't bother.
  • I own a handmade accessories shop, blog, and write - this is what I do all day long.  It is the best job ever.
  • I am pretty shy and a little socially awkward in real life.
  • I am extremely sarcastic and melodrama drives me crazy.
  • I don't take myself or much too seriously.
  • I am obsessed with history - old homes, museums, period dramas, movies, and books.
  • I hate air conditioning.  With a passion.
  • Steak tartare is my favorite.  Don't judge until you try it.
  • My husband is the dreamer.  I am the practical one.  Funny enough - I am the one chasing my dreams and he is the engineer.  I guess we do need healthcare....

  7. Hi! So glad I clicked on the "New Reader? Start Here" button! New to the "blog world" here with a similar mission - both of us are full time workers trying to start up our little accessories shoppe! Love all of your stuff, and plan on following your blog! Thank you for the inspiration!

  8. found your blog through the post you did on biz ladies about valuing your work (thank you for that by the way). reading your "about" page was so refreshing - I thought your personality sounded a lot like mine- practical, non smiley, sarcastic, being all or nothing... however i love and adore air conditioning (living in the sweltering heat and humidity of the South might sway you?)
anyhow, thank you for being an inspiration AND in such a down to earth manner - am i the only one that tires of blogs referring to readers as their lovelies, chickies, etc?

    1. ha! yes, nothing worse than freezing in a cold office all day long. i would rather be too hot than the slightest bit chilly any day :).
goat cheese...eat it with fruit - amazing. put it on a pizza - the best. sprinkle a little on eggs. spread some on good bread, top with arugula and tomatoes and make a fancy grilled cheese. sprinkle some on a pasta dish. put it on a sweet potato - my favorite! i use it like normal people might use butter.

    2. On eggs! A fancy grilled cheese!??? yes yes yes! Why didn't I think of the grilled cheese! That might be my dinner tonight.

I love sweet potatoes and never thought of that, so if I have anymore left (after the sandwich of course) I'll have to sprinkle some on my potato.

      Thanks so much!!

  16. Love your shop! I'm from Cincy, and can currently hear my husband yelling at Xavier on the tv. You also give great tips for small business owners. I've just recently started my own stationary/greeting card line. I love it, but have so much to learn! Are you still in the city?
