Much Love Monday - Etsy Front Page

Today I am loving the Shimmering White and Silver Headband in my shop.  A few weeks ago it was featured in an Etsy Finds Email and Saturday it was on Etsy's front page!  That feels good.

I love this headband and think it's gorge.  It hasn't sold yet, but I assume the right person is out there somewhere...

Have a wonderful Monday everyone ~ tomorrow is the official first day in which I am full time working for myself.  Wish me luck!

Last Day

I always loved the last day of school {and hated the first}.  Today is my last day at work and I feel that same last-day-of-school-excitement.

Here is to the start of a new and more fulfilling career!

{P.S. A big thanks to my husband for agreeing to be broke while I work this out.}

Gray is the New Black

A friend emailed me this link to Green Wedding Shoes today.  I love the laid back and natural look of this wedding.

My absolute favorite part {besides the beautiful handmade-by-the-bride hair accessories} is the gray bridesmaids dresses.  As soon as I saw them I was excited.  I have always been a gray clothing fan, but lately I am loving it more than any other shade.  It is so versatile and understated.

Do you wear gray or do you think it's too boring?  Could gray be your new black?

Before and After Table + More Halloween Decor

Months ago I bought a small table for $5 at a thrift store.  It was a steal, so I couldn't pass it up. I wasn't sure if I needed it, but I figured $5 was worth it...even if it just sat in my garage.  {Is that the mantra of a hoarder??}

I saw this whitewash technique on Design*Sponge and wanted to try it.  I figured the $5 table would be a good piece to practice on.

So, I sanded with my new electrical sander {they are only about $20...I have no idea why I have been sanding by hand all these years}, then mixed 1/4 cup of paint with a big splash of water {that is seriously all you need, this technique is perfect if you only have a small amount of paint}, and painted long brush strokes, then wiped away excess paint with a clean rag.

A few hours later, when the paint was dry, I used a sanding sponge to make the wood on the legs stand out a bit.  I love the result and decided to set up a little Halloween decor of my own on it.

I put some white pumpkins on the table...and a picture of my niece in last year's pumpkin costume:

And, I put up a photo of my dogs in last year's pig costumes:

And then I made one picture look a little spooky:

Halloween Decor

In general, I am not a big fan of Halloween decorations.  I do love pumpkins, but the over sized spiders that I am seeing all over my neighborhood really creep me out.  I have actually avoided walking my dogs down certain streets because I get so disgusted.  {It's a fear - I cannot help it.}

In the spirit of Halloween, and I guess Fall in general, I thought I would pull together some looks that don't scare me.

Can you tell how much I love the white pumpkin trend?  They are so much cuter than their orange counterparts!

Now, Samantha's Style

A few weeks ago, I blogged about my lingering childhood obsession with the American Girl dolls.  After spending quite a bit of time on the American Girl website, I read that Kirsten and Samantha {another doll I own} have been retired.  For some reason, this made me so sad!  Both dolls were so adorable.

I loved finding Scandinavian/Nordic fashion and decor inspired by Kirsten, so today I am delving into my most beloved time period, the Victorian era.

While I don't quite remember when my Victorian obsession started, I have a little feeling that it had a lot to do with Retired American Girl Samantha.  I poured over the books, clothing, furniture, and accessories that accompanied Samantha.  To this day I cannot get enough of how adorably Victorian everything was....

In the spirit of Samantha's style, I found some perfect Victorian or Victorian inspired items around the web...

Much Love Monday - Happy Ending

Over the past few weeks {months?} I have been counting down to the final day of my soul sucking job and my first day of my new life...a life where I work for myself doing what makes me happy.

I am thrilled to report that my final week is here!  I have looked forward to this week for about a year and a half and am so happy it is here.

I am a mix of mostly excitement, but a dash of anxiety.  The anxiety stems from "What if I can't do it and have to get another shit job?"  Ultimately, this type of thinking is not productive and will only hold me back.

On this Much Love Monday, I love a happy ending. While the journey to get here has been tough {and at times painfully boring}, I can truly say that this ending is a happy one.  I thank you all for your reading/listening/support.  The blogging community as a whole has been extremely supportive of my non-conventional decision and I am very grateful.

Every "you can do it!" type comment that someone posts on my blog fills me with confidence and inspiration.

Here is to my last Monday of a boring job.  My last Monday of pulling myself out of bed with dreams of the next weekend.  My last Monday of feeling like I am wasting my life for a paycheck.

Where ever you are in your journey {or if you are right where you want to be} have a great week!

Weekend!

Finally.  These final days at work are utterly draaaaaaagging.

Just one week left!

After all the stories I have told my friends about my odd/frustrating/Office-esque co-workers, they have requested that I take pictures on my final day.  To their disappointment, I have opted not to do this.

Anyway, here are some random thoughts from my week....

Yesterday as I was leaving work, I had to slam on my breaks as a puppy trotted across the street.  He looked so carefree and confident...and so skinny.  I almost stopped and took him home, but I came to my senses.  If I know anything, it is that I do not need another dog.

I have this guy {all grown up} and he's a handful.
And calling him a handful is a huge understatement.

This cutting board is too cute....love it.

I am so beyond sick of the mustache trend. It's terrible and don't even get me started on the fake-mustache-at-weddings trend. Vomit.

I bought a simple metal cart with wheels for $5 at an estate sale.  I have been contemplating what color to paint it....yellow would be easy and fun.  But, I like the industrial look of the one below.  I wonder how I could achieve something similar...any ideas?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Etsy FInds Emails....

Last week, I noticed a drastic increase of traffic to my shop...so I did a bit of research and found that I was featured in Tuesday's Etsy Finds email!

So exciting.

If you don't get the email - check it out here.

Blue + Gray Bedroom Mood Board

I have been blogging/talking about this bedroom makeover + all the little projects forever.  I meant to have it done weeks ago, but was derailed by a lot of {much welcomed} Acute Designs business.

This weekend I am free and ready to get started...so I just spent one of my last days at work {yay!} making a mood board.

I made the above collage on Picnik. I recently created an account and am in love with it.

I am an Ambassador

I know, it sounds so official doesn't it?  It isn't so official, but it is pretty cool.

About two months ago, I discovered {via random blog hopping and what not} the blog Makeunder My Life.  MML is run by Jess Constable of Jess LC jewelry, which is based in Chicago.

Jess's jewelry is gorgeous and her blog is a mix of fun, inspiration, her experiences, and so on. A great read if you are a small business owner/trying to make the business work, such as myself, or if you are just a fan of good blogs.

I decided to become a Jess LC Ambassador because it gives me the opportunity to support a fellow small business owner.  Also, it is a fantastic way to network and learn more about running my own biz.  I am not at Jess's level of success yet, but hope to be there soon!

Want to see more?  Check out MML here and Jess LC here.

Weekend!

I have been super busy all week preparing for the Craft Show on Sunday.  If you are in San Diego...stop by and say hello! {Get the deets here.}

Have a wonderful fall weekend!

Blue and Gray Bedrooms

Remember the other day when I virtually picked out some items for my blue and gray bedroom that I have been meaning to get together since August?

Well, it would be great if I could snap my fingers and make it look like any of these:

Channeling Kirsten's Swedish Style

As a child, I was obsessed with the American Girl Dolls.  I owned four and played with them relentlessly.  Now that I am all grown up, I still love them.  Despite the many changes within the company that I am not a fan of, they have continued to grow their line of historical fiction books and dolls and I want them all!

I love the style that Kirsten {the Swedish immigrant} embodies.  The doll and her furniture are currently "retired" and no longer sold, but she had the cutest accessories and furniture.

Some fashion and decor finds that channel Kirsten's Swedish style.

{ Modern, but with a hint of Scandinavian flavor, this vintage jacket by Jess James Jake on Etsy is perfect}

{I just love with this vintage sweater by Luvo on Etsy}

{Bird pillow by Fjorn}

Much Love Monday - Super Big Sales

This weekend, Old Navy had a big sale to celebrate their 16th Birthday.  I was unaware of this sale, which I feel is bad marketing on ON's part...especially considering the amount of time I spend on blogs and the internet...

Anyways, I happened to be in the same shopping center as Old Navy this weekend and decided to just have a quick look.  I was happily surprised that many items were on sale for $16 - including my coveted skinny cords!

The sizes were picked over, but I was able to get two pairs  {one gray and one dark cranberry} as well as a long and super soft black sweater and a skull Halloween toy for my dogs. {Finn destroyed it within the day, but it was only $3 so whatevs. Plus, he had fun and that's all I care about.}

This Monday I love.....

-Good deals - especially when they are something you were planning to purchase at full price.  I read some great money managing advice recently - "never buy anything on sale that you wouldn't buy it it was at its full price."  Good advice.

-Pumpkins and Squash-  Two of my favorite foods and I love that it is the season for them. I am seeing them everywhere and am making so many delicious recipes {including this to.die.for. soup}.

Have a great Monday!

Grateful Saturday - Beef Bourguignon

I have been meaning to link up at Maxabella loves...Grateful Saturday for months and finally find myself with a quiet Saturday morning and the opportunity to post!

Today I am grateful for:

-The dutch ovens on sale at TJ Maxx (which I purchased) and....

-Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon recipe that has been on my recipe to-do list forever.  It is finally chilly enough for a cook-all-day meal and I am excited to try it!

What are you grateful for today?  Blog about it and link up over at Maxabella lovesMaxabella loves...

Hello, Weekend

It's here again.  What are you up to?

I have my first official craft/art show next weekend, so I will be preparing all this weekend.

If you are in the San Diego area next Sunday {October 17th}, stop by and say hello!

Real Housewives of Atlanta - Season Three

I watched.  I know I said I wouldn’t watch, but I did.  I have no will power and a penchant for trash TV.

Here are my thoughts:

1. While I don't like to trash the kids {they are usually innocent bystanders in all of this} Kim's daughter needs to not talk with her mouth full.  That whole scene of her eating ice cream while talking to Kim about some hot foreign exchange student made me a little nauseous.  I hate to say that I foresee a teenage pregnancy.

2. Phaedra was so classy.  I know this because she mentioned on several occasions just how classy she is.  You know you are only classy if you tell people about it.  Also, I loved the irony when she discussed potential baby names with her husband, Apollo, stating that so many people have silly names these days.

3. Sha-Ray - ummmm, acting classes?  Riiiiight.

4. Kandi - she really seems nice but her hair kept getting in my way.

5. NeNe -   Her new nose freaks me out.  Srsly.  It is so much worse than her old nose and I could not handle the flipping back and forth.  It was confusing.

6. I miss Lisa.  Her and Ed were a bit boring, but I thought they were cute.

7. There is another new housewife.  A supermodel housewife who may or may not get married to an older man.  She wasn't on the first episode, but she was all over the previews.  She looks like drama.  Should be fun.

Did you watch? Or are you over Atlanta?

Blue and Gray

The walls in both bedrooms in my house are painted a pale blueish gray color and I love it.  I could have gone even more gray but since I have a husband, compromise is always in order.

In order to add some more blue and gray to the room, I think I will spruce up with some {or all} of the following:

Cute bedside lamp from Ikea:
Or, this one from Pottery Barn Teen:

Material for my bench project {from JoAnn Fabrics}:

Material for some new throw pillows {from Ikea}:

And {also from JoAnn}:

Barely blue blanket {Ikea}:

 Blue-White Duvet {Also Ikea...I am always on a budget}:
I will be back soon with some room inspiration.
